Strategic Campaigning for Change – Renewable Energy

by admin

We all need energy. But the rising prices of anthropogenic climate change continues, and decreases the reserves of conventional oil and gas, is the urgent question: “Where does our energy come from” Today, as consumers we all are? Given the choice, which we and future generations. Should we continue to impact on risky big energy companies and power plants for our procurement and research funding for the “unconventional” sources in view of fossil fuels in fragile environments, or take direct responsibility for generating their own power?

There is some urgency here. A new start for the gas to evolve. The oil and gas companies are working to provide for themselves in a frenzy about the potential goldmine new energy source called shale gas. Untapped in the UK, shale gas is developed deep in the beds of shale and through such techniques in the United States, is now available and more importantly, apparently produced commercially. The British Geological Survey (BGS), reports the British Shale gas potential reserves could be as large as 150 billion cubic meters – equivalent to about 1.5 years of total gas consumption in the United Kingdom and the value of around £ 28 billion at current prices.

But this has its price. Exploratory drilling took place in the near Blackpool and has already caused some controversy. Cuadrilla resources, the company’s operating platform, which recently suspended operations after suspected that two recent earthquakes in the vicinity of “rupture” were triggered testing – the process by which the rock broken slate in the release of gas at high pressure liquid . Even more worryingly, shows the United States, as the documentary GasLand, nominated for an Oscar for many sources of water can be caused by chemicals used or mobilized in the process of formation of cracks contaminated.

As if this were not enough, Cornell University recently reported that shale gas could be worse than coal for the climate, because the wells can leak large amounts of methane – a greenhouse gas powerful. A briefing of the recent Green Alliance supports a second lane for gas is not in our long-term interests. Far from being a springboard for a low carbon future and the path to energy security could actually discourage shale gas investments in renewable energies and new technologies and are committed to the gas for decades. Since the United Kingdom has already cut its emissions from coal to gas, a second track can be reduced for gas, actually prevent us from meeting our carbon budgets.

The report shows that local authorities “very little interest in shale gas industry BGS successfully but does not prevent that tell the industry that they benefit from it when Michael Meacher MP said:..” The lengths to which the fossil fuel industry is in to block their own interest, which is clearly the best way to meet the energy needs of the world deserves a Nobel Prize-anti. “No wonder, then, that the round of United 14 onshore oil and gas exploration licenses current, local communities around the Kingdom was concerned. The Vale of Glamorgan Says No leads the attack, is that their communities, nature and water can be contaminated if broken can be moved forward.

The cooperative is a moratorium on the exploration of shale gas Appeals, and the promotion of community owned renewable energy sources by the commitment of Co-operative Bank, around £ 1000000000, to invest in the sector. Unlike shale and other unconventional fossil fuels can not only community-owned renewable energy to bring the power in our hands, but also has the potential additional benefits to the communities in the form of jobs available, affordable warmth and community cohesion. If you think about the choice for future generations is to be deleted. It is, as they say, is a breeze.

Campaign for a clean energy revolution requires an engagement with a wide range of target groups. This is not only the reform of public policy, but about public key constituencies, communities and civil society on the side.
